Do you want to help us to develop a cutting-edge drug delivery platform that delivers protein-based therapeutics directly to the cytosol of cells? Are you eager to contribute to a dynamic team environment where your expertise will be crucial to launching a new company? Then join us at The BioInnovation Institute (BII) at Nørrebro, where we are currently looking for an experienced research scientist with a strong background in cell and molecular biology.
The mission of BII is to create new life science solutions to address unmet societal or health needs. At BII, we have established a program, Bio Studio, which aims to build life science start-ups based on world-class research. Bio Studio projects are three-year grant funded projects sourced from leading researchers employed at research institutions worldwide. The projects we admit combine scientific novelty, commercial viability, and the potential for significant societal and/or health impact. The goal of the projects is to create a viable start-up company based on the project within the three years.
BII aims to recruit a strong project team for each Bio Studio project, and it is expected that this team will form the core of the future start-up deriving from the project. Apart from establishing a solid Project Team, to be headed up by an Entrepreneur in Residence, BII provides a comprehensive network of industry, investors, and subject matter experts to support the projects.
Your Opportunity to Join BII’s Bio Studio Program!
We are launching PlasmPort, an exciting new project to develop a breakthrough drug delivery technology with the potential to revolutionize intracellular targeting. PlasmPort enables efficient delivery of biological therapeutics to previously inaccessible intracellular compartments, opening up entirely new treatment strategies. Initially developed at the Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University in the team of associate professor Christian Folsted, the project is now progressing within the BioStudio program at the BioInnovation Institute.
As part of BII's Bio Studio program, this project aims to transform groundbreaking research into a viable startup company within a three-year timeframe. You will have a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of intracellular drug delivery, collaborating with leading scientists to develop novel therapeutic strategies for diseases that are currently untreatable.
By joining our team, you will play an instrumental role in bringing this promising technology from laboratory concept to clinical application.
Your ownership of our mutual journey will be to:
- Elucidate the molecular and cellular processes mediating intracellular uptake of our new drug delivery platform.
- Design, establish, and validate in vitro potency assays for quality control and efficacy assessment.
- Introduce and maintain structured documentation practices in line with basic GLP principles.
- Take a key role in coordinating collaborations across external partners and internal project work packages.
Your daily work and well-being will be shared directly with the Entrepreneur in Residence, but as a small community with close ties and bright minds, you should be prepared for many cross-functional and inspiring discussions that can help shape your work at BII.
Your Professional & Personal Qualifications
We're looking for a creative problem-solver who's passionate about developing innovative drug delivery technologies. The ideal candidate enjoys tackling complex challenges in a collaborative environment and can translate scientific concepts into practical solutions. You are detail-oriented yet adaptable, self-motivated, and ready to navigate the exciting journey from bench to bedside in a startup setting. Most importantly, you bring not just technical skills but also enthusiasm that inspires the team and the project.
Besides this, you have:
- PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline. Alternatively, you have a master’s degree and significant industry experience
- Hands‑on mammalian cell‑culture expertise, from routine maintenance to functional and cell-based bioassays.
- Track record of designing, developing, and validating new in‑vitro assays, including potency, mechanism‑of‑action, and QC assays.
- Independent mindset with the confidence to make data‑driven decisions.
- Strong scientific writing & reporting: produces clear protocols, study reports, and slide decks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate in line with project timelines and goals.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Preferred Experience:
- Industrial biologics R&D background (such as antibodies, recombinant proteins, enzymes, or mRNA/LNP therapeutics).
- Understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing and regulatory aspects of biologics.
Your Experience Working at BII
We offer a committed and professional workplace in which we emphasize ensuring that our colleagues thrive, are challenged, and have opportunities to develop their potential. A career at BII allows you to work with world-leading entrepreneurial scientists in a position where you will have a substantial chance to impact your job and the opportunity to develop your bio entrepreneurial skills.
BII invites you to become part of a vibrant and professional workplace with a chance to bring ideas to life and science to market for the benefit of society and human welfare.
