We are expanding our Intellectual Property (IP) team at Zealand Pharma to meet the needs of a growing and highly innovative organization. We are looking for a patent agent or patent attorney with a relevant technical background and some experience from patent work.
A key part of the role will be to support Research & Development (R&D) projects on IP topics, including by devising patent strategies, and making sure all ideas and innovations are captured and turned into valuable IP. We have a close collaboration with external patent attorneys that assist with much of our patent drafting and prosecution work. You will be sparring with these externals during the patenting process, and you will also get chances to work directly on drafting, prosecution, post-grant procedures, and freedom-to-operate tasks.
Our team consists of two European patent attorneys, one IP administrator and trademark manager, and one search specialist. You will report to the VP of Intellectual Property.
Responsibilities
We need you to be a dedicated team player: We are a small team with a strong desire for collaboration and helping each other. In the IP team, as well as at Zealand Pharma in general, you will experience a uniquely friendly, helpful, and collaborative culture. No one does anything great alone, and we expect you to join us with a similar friendly, helpful, and collaborative attitude. You will receive the relevant sparring and guidance, and you should expect to work on a variety of different and challenging tasks:
• You will be an integral part of our R&D project teams and provide support on all IP topics. • As a member of R&D project teams, you will capture ideas and innovations and work to turn them into valuable IP. • You will devise and maintain patent strategies. • You will work on drafting, prosecution, and post-grant procedures, often in collaboration with our external patent attorneys. • You will help monitor the patent activities of our competitors and assist with freedom-to-operate analyses and IP due diligence. • You will communicate on IP topics to stakeholders at all levels of Zealand Pharma.
Candidate profile
On the technical side, we value experience within pharmaceuticals, metabolic disorders, peptides, protein chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related areas. You don’t need to be a peptide or metabolic disease expert. We value a strong scientific mind, the skills to interact naturally with our creative and smart researchers, and the curiosity and boldness to ask the right questions.
On the patent side, you should have at least 3 years of experience from patent work, either in-house or in private practice. You don’t need to be a European Patent Attorney, and if you are not and would like to be, we will support you in that process.
• You have a university degree in a relevant technical area and preferably also some research experience. • You have worked with patents for at least 3 years. • You are a team player with a curious, collaborative, and helpful attitude.
Bonding to innovate
Our employees are fundamental to our success, and we continue to be able to attract and retain people with vast experience and talent. We have a unique culture, characterized by excellent teamwork and strong engagement across the organization.
Making bonds is at the core of everything we do. From discovering and developing the best new peptide drugs for patients, to engaging with our partners or connecting with each other.
We bond as a result of our entrepreneurial culture where our people are encouraged to pursue their ideas and turn them into reality. We are curious about each other’s knowledge and expertise.
We bond through curiosity and playfulness as a team, allowing ourselves to challenge common thinking and drive future innovation. Zealand Pharma is a place where everyone is heard and contributes to the success, we all want to experience.
The Zealand Pharma DNA builds on four values: (1) We are bold, (2) We empower people, (3) We work as one team, and (4) We can be trusted.
Let’s bond and be bold
We offer a combined compensation package which includes a base salary, pension, bonus, and a possibility to join our employee share program. We care about our employees’ well-being and offer health insurance, use of massage, fitness, and a range of social clubs and activities.
