Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) to lead a Women’s Health project at BII Bio Studio
Are you a driven life science entrepreneur passionate about making an impact in the underrepresented field of Women’s Health? Do you thrive on taking projects from concept to company creation and envision yourself as the future CEO of a new venture?
We are looking for a passionate and driven life science Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) to make a meaningful impact in the underrepresented field of Women's Health. If you're excited by the challenge of leading a project from ideation to spin-out - and see yourself as the potential future CEO of a new venture - this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
The EiR Role
As an EiR, you will join the Bio Studio program, which supports early-stage research projects in becoming independent life science start-up companies within three years. Our ambition is to launch five projects annually across human and planetary health, sourcing innovative research from principal investigators and universities worldwide.
In this role, you will lead a groundbreaking project focused on developing a human model of the maternal-fetal interface (complex in vitro model) as a validated preclinical safety tool in close contact with regulatory authorities and users such as CROs and pharma industry. The project aims to address the general lack of data on fetal drug safety which so far limits treatment options for any condition during pregnancy or for women of child-bearing age. Your mission is to transform this research into a viable start-up within the three-year timeframe of the Bio Studio program.
Working from our premises in Copenhagen, you'll play a central role in building and leading a dedicated team, cultivating a strong venture-ready culture, and collaborating closely with the Principal Investigator to ensure a solid scientific foundation with strong market potential. This is a unique opportunity to drive innovation in the underrepresented field of Women's Health while shaping a new company from the ground up.
Main responsibilities:
- Liaise with Principal Investigator (EMBL, remote and in-person)
- Project strategy development and business planning in close concert with PI
- Project execution through milestone planning and monitoring (agile workflow)
- Budgeting and monitoring (with help from BII controller)
- Engage with key Stakeholders, including the Scientific Advisory Board, Pharma and Regulatory agencies (Board will be created), Industry partners/CROs, and potential Investors
- Fundraising/industry partnership creation
- People management of the Project Team - ensure a coherent and motivated team
- Chair of quarterly Project Board meetings
- Participate in ad-hoc due diligence process within BII
Professional & Personal Qualifications
We are looking for a visionary leader passionate about creating impactful companies and bringing science to life, especially within underrepresented industries such as women’s health. Besides being a champion for new technologies in an underrepresented industry, the ideal candidate brings solid business development, project management, and people management experience alongside a strong industry network. Other than these skills and experiences, we imagine that you have:
- PhD level in a relevant field (e.g., Biomedical Sciences or Engineering) or MBA in Business with a preferred undergraduate background or experience working in the life sciences sector (biology, bioengineering, or similar)
- 10+ years of experience within the life science sector (ideally within women’s health or maternal health, translational a/o pre-clinical phase, drug development)
- Proven experience in founding or building (early-stage) startups
- Experience with scaling up – ability to manage operations, logistics, and quality control for increasing MPS throughput
- Experience in interactions with regulatory authorities and/or pre-clinical safety toxicology
- Experience with contract negotiation with external parties
- Previous work experiences with either pharmaceutical companies or CROs (drug development or preclinical research) are considered valuable
- Knowledge of micro-physiologic systems (MPS) or organ-on-chip technologies is advantageous
- Strong communicator, presenter, and stakeholder manager
You're known as a professional, compassionate leader with a collaborative, team-oriented approach. You confidently take the lead on projects while adapting and growing with new challenges. With a proactive, solution-driven mindset, you excel at creating scope and processes for new areas. Your approach is grounded in sustainable business principles, paired with resilience and a curious, growth-oriented outlook.
