As we grow to meet increasing demand from global partners, we are seeking an experienced Head of Fermentation to lead and scale our fermentation team, expand capabilities across diverse microbial platforms, and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to advance our biomanufacturing solutions.

You thrive in fast-paced settings and are eager to join a rapidly scaling company, currently around 20 employees and set to significantly grow in 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing fermentation team, including scientists and engineers, to deliver on company and client milestones.
- Cross-Platform Expertise: Oversee development and optimization of fermentation processes across various microbial hosts, such as E. coli, Corynebacterium, Bacillus, and yeasts (Pichia, S. cerevisiae).
- Process Development & Scale-Up: Design and implement robust microbial fermentation processes, scaling from bench to pilot scale (>150 liters) and supporting technology transfer to clients and their manufacturing.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as a key point of contact for internal teams, clients, and clients and partners, ensuring timely communication and alignment on project goals.
- Data-Driven Decision-Making: Analyze complex datasets, troubleshoot process challenges, and identify opportunities for optimization across multiple programs.
- Documentation & Reporting: Ensure meticulous documentation, including SOPs, ELNs, and technical reports, while delivering clear and impactful presentations to stakeholders.
- Innovation & Best Practices: Stay at the forefront of fermentation technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements to continually improve processes and methodologies.
What You Bring:
- Education: Master’s or PhD in Fermentation Science, Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 12+ years in microbial fermentation or bioprocess development, with a focus on process scale-up and pilot-scale activities.
- Proven leadership experience, managing multidisciplinary teams across multiple projects.
- Expertise with diverse microbial systems and bioprocess workflows.
- Track record of successfully scaling fermentation processes and transferring technologies to manufacturing.
- Technical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of microbial fermentation, bioreactor systems (e.g., Sartorius Biostat range), and associated analytical techniques.
- Strong understanding of strain engineering, microbial physiology, and bioprocess optimization.
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DoE), process modeling, and statistical analysis tools.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with scientists, engineers, executives, and external stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly growing organization.
