We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Microfluidics Engineer to strengthen our R&D capabilities within our consumables area. You will be pivotal to our success by contributing to the development of the next generation of Sophion consumables.
The role
As a Microfluidics Engineer in the Consumable team, you will be part of a small and dedicated group of specialists within the fields of materials, biology, and integration. You, along with the rest of the team, will be responsible for developing the next generation of consumables for both current and future Sophion products. The work will involve all part of development cycle from idea, technology maturation, product development to implementation in operations.
To thrive in this role, you should possess extensive knowledge and experience in microfluidics design and testing, material science, and development of complex consumables. Strong interdisciplinary collaboration is essential, so excellent communication and networking skills, including professional proficiency in English, are required.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Contribute to the development of both existing and next-generation Sophion microfluidic-based consumables, from conceptualization to market launch.
- Integrate emerging technologies in microfluidics to advance our solutions over time.
- Interface with project managers and product managers to translate, formalize, prioritize, and execute market and customer requirements into specific product requirements.
- Actively support and provide technical guidance to the team and the rest of the organization within other areas of Sophion products.
- Closely collaborate with scientists, other engineers, and various stakeholders to ensure that the new consumable designs meet the requirements of the specific applications.
- Document and communicate results, design concepts, project status, and potential issues in reports and presentations.
Profile and key Qualifications:
- M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, preferably with a Ph.D.
- Proven work experience in microfluidics design, modeling, simulation, and manufacturing.
- Experience with microfabrication techniques and microsystems integration is a must.
- Proficiency in using laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and spectrometers.
- Excellent project and time management skills and experience working in dynamic and technically complex projects involving numerous internal and external stakeholders.
- Data-driven with proficiency in data analysis.
- Creative, enthusiastic, self-driven, and with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and rectify issues that may arise during the design, development, and testing of microfluidic-based consumables.
- Responsibility and pride in quality and deliverables.
- General biology knowledge, including ion channel physiology and the drug discovery process, is a plus.
- A team player who works well in a dynamic environment and can handle several projects in parallel while keeping an overview.
- Able to communicate fluently in English.
