In this role, you will develop robust and scalable biological assays by combining strong scientific knowledge with hands-on laboratory work. This position offers the opportunity to shape screening approaches at the core of Orbis’ discovery engine in close collaboration with the Platform Chemistry and AI & Computational Drug Design departments.
This is a hands-on senior role, where you will:
- Actively perform experiments and troubleshoot assays
- Drive the implementation of screening technologies and automated workflows
- Optimize the lab-in-the-loop cycle
Your main tasks will include:
- Design, develop, and implement biochemical and cellular assays for both screening and hit validation
- Establish assays suitable for automation and high-throughput screening
- Drive assay robustness, reproducibility, and data quality
- Lead and support DEL screening campaigns at CROs
- Apply biophysical methods (e.g. SPR, DSF, or similar) for hit validation and characterization of target–
compound interactions
- Collaborate closely with Chemistry teams to align screening strategies with compound libraries
- Analyze and interpret complex screening and biophysical datasets and translate data into actionable
insights for project team
- Managing screening data and applying the FAIR data principles
Scientific leadership & collaboration
- Act as scientific lead within Screening Biology
- Set screening strategy and long-term assay platform direction in collaboration with VP of Platform
Chemistry
- Mentor and develop scientists and technicians
- Provide scientific input to portfolio and project decisions
- Communicate results and recommendations to senior leadership
- Lead a small cross-functional team (Screening Biology, Platform Chemistry, Computational Chemistry,
and AI/Data Science) to ensure alignment across hit identification, hit validation, and progression of
hits to advanced hits
Your Skills and Expertise
You hold a PhD in a relevant field combined with several years of relevant industry experience, including strong hands-on experience with assay development and high throughput screening, including development of cellular screening assays. You have experience working with automation and liquid handling systems and preferably experience with DEL screening.
Experience with biophysical techniques such as SPR, DSF, ITC or similar methods is considered an advantage.
You enjoy working hands-on in the laboratory and are able to combine strong scientific depth with practical execution. You thrive in an innovative, fast-paced environment and are motivated by contributing directly to experimental work and data generation.
