Senior Scientist for Down Stream Process Development
- Are you driven by the challenge of turning lab-scale processes into robust, scalable production systems?
- Does developing and optimizing downstream recovery of innovative food ingredients excite you?
- Are you looking to make a tangible impact in an innovative startup environment?
Join Chromologics as our Senior Scientist for Downstream Process Development and help shape the future of food colorants through precision fermentation.
At Chromologics, we’re on a mission to revolutionize the food industry by producing sustainable, fermentation-based natural colorants. With solid support from international investors and a team of 17 professionals across fermentation, biotechnology, food science, and business, we are advancing from pilot operations to commercial readiness.
Your Role: Advancing Downstream Processes
As Senior Scientist for Downstream Process Development, you’ll lead the development and scale-up of pigment recovery from our precision fermentation processes. Your responsibilities span from hands-on development in our pilot facility to process transfer and technical collaboration with external manufacturing partners.
In this role, you will:
- Design, optimize, and scale downstream unit operations, including solid/liquid separation, membrane filtration (ultra/nano)
- Evaluate, select, and help install new processing equipment as we expand our in-house DSP line.
- Conduct experimental work, troubleshoot processes, and prepare comprehensive documentation to ensure successful tech transfer and production scalability.
- Continuously improve performance through data-driven insights, lab trials, and feasibility studies.
What We’re Looking For
You are a curious, self-motivated scientist ready to shape the future of food technology. You thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy solving complex technical challenges.
Your qualifications:
- Have a MSc in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering or biotechnology, potentially combined with a PhD.
- Have at least 2 years of industrial experience, preferably as a (bio)process engineer, working with fermentation-based manufacturing processes
- Strong background in recovery processes e.g., solid/liquid separation, membrane processing, and Solid Phase Extraction.
- Have a strong analytical and creative mind, combined with a lot of personal drive
- Flair for data analysis e.g., mass balances, drawing conclusions, and presenting outputs to scientific and non-scientific audiences
You’re excited about working in a growing startup where flexibility, initiative, and big-picture thinking are key to success.
Welcome to Chromologics!
Chromologics was founded in 2017 and uses precision fermentation to produce novel colorants. Our technology platform will enable us to be early movers in introducing exclusively lab-grown natural food colorants to the market that are high-performing, cost-competitive, and sustainable alternatives. Unlike other existing natural colors, our colorants are not extracted from high-value labor-intensive raw materials like fruit & vegetables or insects but are produced via fermentation. Chromologics R&D is transforming our work from lab to product commercialization.
Chromologics offers you the ability to gain experience and take on broader responsibilities. We are an international and diverse team located at the Innovation House at Alfa Laval in Søborg – your office will be in Søborg. We thrive on innovation, sustainability, and applied technologies. Our facilities are within cycling and public transportation distance of Copenhagen, with access to the Alfa Laval canteen and fitness facilities.
Salary and employment terms will match the experience and background of the right candidate.
