Senior Scientist for Up Stream Process Development
- Are you passionate about precision fermentation and its potential to revolutionize natural food ingredients?
- Do you have the skills to drive fermentation process development from lab to production scale?
- Are you ready to make a high-impact contribution in a collaborative startup environment?
Join Chromologics as our new Senior Scientist for Upstream Process Development and help us bring our groundbreaking natural food colorants to market.
At Chromologics, we’re building the future of sustainable food colorants through precision fermentation. Backed by international investors, our team of 17 specialists in fermentation, food science, biotechnology, and business is working to replace petrochemical-based colors with clean, natural alternatives.
Your Role: Perfecting and Scaling Fermentation Processes
As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and scaling fermentation processes—from lab-scale experiments to full-scale commercial production. Your work will span hands-on development in our own pilot facilities, as well as tech transfer and oversight of external manufacturing at European CMOs.
You will:
- Develop and optimize upstream fermentation processes using filamentous fungi.
- Support and participate in pilot-scale production for testing and customer trials.
- Lead technology transfer efforts and ensure robust process documentation for external manufacturing partners.
- Continuously improve processes through scientific insights, lab trials, and feasibility studies.
What We’re Looking For
You are a curious, self-motivated scientist ready to shape the future of food technology. You thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy solving complex technical challenges.
Your qualifications:
- MSc in Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology (PhD is a plus)
- Minimum 2 years of industry experience, ideally in fermentation or process engineering
- Proven expertise in upscaling and technology transfer of microbial production
- Strong analytical thinking, creativity, and personal drive
- Experience with data analysis, including mass balances, and confident in communicating results to both scientific and non-scientific audiences
You’re excited about working in a growing startup where flexibility, initiative, and big-picture thinking are key to success.
Welcome to Chromologics!
Chromologics was founded in 2017 and uses precision fermentation to produce novel colorants. Our technology platform will enable us to be early movers in introducing exclusively lab-grown natural food colorants to the market that are high-performing, cost-competitive, and sustainable alternatives. Unlike other existing natural colors, our colorants are not extracted from high-value labor-intensive raw materials like fruit & vegetables or insects but are produced via fermentation. Chromologics R&D is transforming our work from lab to product commercialization.
Chromologics offers you the ability to gain experience and take on broader responsibilities. We are an international and diverse team located at the Innovation House at Alfa Laval in Søborg – your office will be in Søborg. We thrive on innovation, sustainability, and applied technologies. Our facilities are within cycling and public transportation distance of Copenhagen, with access to the Alfa Laval canteen and fitness facilities.
Salary and employment terms will match the experience and background of the right candidate.
