Then we might have the perfect opportunity for you at BioInnovation Institute (BII), where we are looking for a Senior IP Specialist to join the Legal Team.
The Job
As a Senior IP Specialist at BII, you will be BII’s IP go-to person, and you will play a central role in managing intellectual property across a dynamic and collaborative innovation environment. BII partners with universities, research institutions, and industry players in Denmark and internationally, and IP management is a cornerstone of these partnerships.
Your key responsibilities will include providing general IP support to the BII organization, overseeing IP-related aspects of contracts and supporting BII’s Bio Studio projects - a translational research program designed to foster company creation, which entails BII carrying out substantial research on site, through individual project groups hired at BII. While the IP and the PI remain at Host University, the Senior IP Specialist will closely support the Bio Studio project leads, advising them on IP-related matters and strategy.
You’ll also contribute significantly to BII’s due diligence processes, particularly in evaluating IP components of potential collaborations. When working with external providers for due diligence, you will be responsible for reviewing and ensuring the quality of their work in close coordination with our Sourcing Team.
The main focus areas will be:
- Drive a strong IP build-up within BIIs Bio Studio translational research projects for future spin-out companies
- Support to BII legal Team on IP-related topics in relation to contract negotiations and management
- IP due diligence support to the BII Team, making sure certain process with external IP advisors are of high quality
- Maintain relationships with university tech transfer offices as related to the Bio Studio IP portfolio
- Monitoring of Bio Studio IP portfolio and external activities through already established setup
- Continue developing the IP network needed at BII to cater to the growing areas of work being done at BII, from Life Science to AI and Quantum
You will be part of BII’s Legal Team, working closely with colleagues across the organization to support and strengthen our intellectual property strategy.
Professional & Personal Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently and taking the lead as the primary IP point of contact. Besides this, we expect you to have:
- Master’s degree (or higher) in life sciences
- Qualified or trained as a European Patent Attorney
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with IP management, including filing strategies and portfolio oversight
- Solid understanding of IP strategy, commerciality, licensing, and collaboration with tech transfer offices
- Experience reviewing publications and communications from an IP perspective
- Strong network with IP advisors within Life Science and Technology
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Besides being able to navigate in complex innovation ecosystems with confidence and clarity, you are solution-oriented and proactive. You see yourself as a strong team player with excellent collaboration skills across disciplines and departments. You have a track record of building trust and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
