To strengthen our Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio and protect our innovations, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patent Attorney to join our Research & Development team. This role will be instrumental in securing and expanding our IP rights, with a particular focus on application-based patent filing to support our growing portfolio of FO-driven solutions across multiple industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with the engineering, sales and marketing teams to understand the value proposition of our technology in various applications and advise on IP filing potential. This is a crucial step of building a value-based model at Aquaporin.
- In close collaboration with the CTO and other relevant stakeholders, continuously develop and communicate internally the IP-strategy to secure close alignment with our R&D and commercial strategies.
- Draft and file high-quality patent applications, ensuring the protection of our proprietary technology and its application across various industries.
- Conduct novelty searches, Freedom-to-operate analyses, and patentability assessments in collaboration with R&D colleagues to identify and secure new innovations.
- Drive a transparent process with clear links to the strategy of maintaining and developing our patent portfolio. You are expected to involve our external IP partner as well as to follow internal procedures for involving the right stakeholders.
- Manage the application process with Intellectual Property Offices (IPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO), ensuring compliance with legal and technical requirements.
- Prepare and submit responses to patent examiner reports to advance applications towards approval.
- Through our external collaborator, monitor and manage application and renewal deadlines to maintain a strong and active patent portfolio.
- Through monitoring the relevant IP landscapes, advise internal teams on potential patent infringements and drive the formulation of risk mitigation strategies.
- Improve the tools we use and organize training sessions to enable and motivate your colleagues to contribute to IP analyses/tasks, and to raise awareness of the importance of IP filings in the organization.
- Provide guidance on other intellectual property matters, including designs and trademarks.
Qualifications & Experience
- A university degree in engineering preferred or a degree in science, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a related technical field coupled with work experience on applications-based patent-filing.
- Proven experience in patent drafting and prosecution, preferably within water treatment, separation and industrial processes.
- Strong understanding of application-based patent strategies, particularly in process-driven innovations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into strong legal protection.
- Creative and Entrepreneurial with a strong sense of collaboration and desire to involve your colleagues.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex matters concisely and effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
