We're looking for a real innovator to create completely new to market products and explore the opportunites of our unique fermentation technology, working independently and systematic. You'll play a key part in shaping the future of food through this role.
About MATR Foods
MATR Foods is a Danish food tech start-up on a mission to build a tastier, healthier and more sustainable future by changing the way we eat, through next generation fermented plant-based products. At MATR, we want to start a positive movement that brings people together around food that’s truly fit for the future.
We utilize nature’s own fungi fermentation to unify vegetables and legumes into natural and craveable food, for food lovers, by food lovers. We launched our first products in 2023 with great demand by consumers and customers, and now we’re entering the next stage of our journey with a full-scale production in our first of a kind factory build in Denmark and internationalization to Germany & Switzerland.
What you’ll be doing
You will be a core driver of product development at MATR, responsible for taking new products from idea to launch – and beyond, as well as continously developing our current product. The role combines hands-on development, structured NPD thinking, and close collaboration across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive end-to-end product development from early concept and prototyping to pilot, scale-up and commercial launch.
- Develop both short-term product improvements and long-term innovation pipelines aligned with MATR’s strategy.
- Formulate fermented, plant-based products with a strong focus on taste, texture, nutrition, functionality and cost. Working hands on with ingredients to create substrates and marinades.
- Plan and execute lab trials, pilot runs and production trials in collaboration with manufacturing and external partners.
- Own product documentation including formulations, specifications, test results and learnings as well as preparing lab reports for patent applications.
- Work closely with Quality, Operations, Commercial and Marketing to ensure products are scalable, compliant and market-ready.
- Support sensory testing, internal tastings and customer demonstrations.
- Continuously improve existing products based on data, feedback and performance in market.
- Stay close to food tech, fermentation and plant-based trends and translate insights into actionable product ideas.
What you’re bringing
We don’t expect you to tick every box, but you should bring a strong mix of technical capability, hands-on experience, curiosity and execution power.
- Background in food science, food technology, biotechnology or gastronomy with fermentation experience.
- Experience with product development in food or beverage – ideally within startups, scaleups or food tech environments.
- Fermentation experience (ideally solid) is a requirement
- Hands-on experience with formulation, trials and scale-up, with a solid understanding of Design of Experiments.
- Solid understanding of NPD processes, from concept development to commercialization.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous environment where priorities evolve.
- Strong analytical and documentation skills – you like turning experiments into learning.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work cross-functionally while also being a self-starter who can drive projects forward
- Fluent in English; Danish is a plus but not a requirement.
