The Role
We are looking for an experienced
Intellectual Property Attorney to take lead and ownership of our global IP portfolio. This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact role where you set the direction and lead the execution of Aquaporin’s IP strategy.
You will work at the intersection between science, business, and law - collaborating directly with our CTO, R&D team, and our commercial team. From capturing new inventions and shaping filing strategies to advising on partnerships and risk management, you will be the driving force ensuring that our innovations are protected and our portfolio is strategically aligned with business growth.
As a Lead IP Attorney at Aquaporin, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding our technologies and ensuring our continued leadership in Forward Osmosis and related applications. In a company of our size, your influence will be immediate and visible.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Lead the strategic development, protection, and management of Aquaporin’s global IP portfolio.
- Drive patent filing, prosecution, portfolio reviews, and cost-benefit assessments.
- Collaborate closely with inventors, project teams, and management to capture and protect high-value innovations.
- Monitor competitive landscapes and freedom-to-operate, advising the business on opportunities and risks.
- Oversee relationships with external counsel and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Build IP awareness across the company, from R&D to commercial teams, through training and guidance.
- Support negotiations in collaborations, licensing, and partnerships where IP plays a central role.
What You Bring
- A university degree in engineering, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a related technical field.
- Documented training in European patent law with at least 7 years of proven experience in patent drafting and prosecution, portfolio management, and application-based IP strategies.
- A proven ability to connect IP with business goals and innovation pipelines.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with researchers, executives, and partners alike.
- Fluency in verbal and written English, with the ability to explain complex matters concisely and effectively.
- A mindset that combines steadfastness with creativity - protecting today while anticipating tomorrow.
