Are you looking for a high-impact job and want to work in a small dynamic team?
Do you get excited by the idea of building something new?
Do you like to tackle unknown challenges?
Become our new Head of Chemistry and join our interdisciplinary team as we move towards regulatory submission and commercialization of our revolutionary natural food colorant.
We are currently a team of 15 people with backgrounds in fermentation, food science, biotechnology, and business. With international investors backing our product development, we are working to change the world of natural food colorants through precision fermentation rather than relying on less efficient and unpredictable agricultural inputs.
To strengthen our research efforts, we are looking for a Head of Chemistry to join our skilled R&D team consisting of specialists in strain development, chemical analysis, fermentation, and food development. Our R&D team includes 7 researchers and 2 laboratory technicians/technologists.
Product discovery and characterization
As Head of Chemistry, you will lead our analytical chemistry team and be subject matter expert for characterization of existing products and initiating best practices. You will work across project teams to support the chemical characterization of products, including formulations and food application cases.
Your main responsibilities will include:
· Coordination of in-house and external laboratory activities with (U)HPLC, LCMS/MS, GC and GC/MS.
· Data analysis and data evaluation as well as troubleshooting experience within analytical methods.
· Developing analytical methods including LCMS methods for quantitative and qualitative purposes as well as assessment in food matrices.
· Coordination with both internal and external labs to describe product formulations.
· Lead elucidation of unknown in the active formulations, incl. impurity analysis.
· Support the preparation of regulatory documents for ECHA, FDA, EFSA etc.
You will work closely with our senior analytical chemists, and the rest of our R&D teams.
Who are you?
We are looking for a highly curious and self-driven individual who is interested in changing the natural food colorant market. You have experience leading small teams and you are skilled in both having the helicopter perspective to map out big-picture strategies and can also zoom in to provide detailed guidance in experimental design, task prioritization, and data analysis.
Your qualifications:
· A relevant degree at master’s level or a PhD in analytical science, formulation, or a related field.
· Experience in team and project management
· 5+ experience within analytical science and product discovery, preferably in the biochemical/pharmaceutical/ food/ feed/pesticide/fine chemical industry.
· Experience in writing chemical composition descriptions and specifications suitable for documents required by various regulatory agencies (e.g. EFSA, FDA. ECHA)
· Expert knowledge of natural product chemistry and analytical development
· Hands-on experience from an analytical laboratory in biochemical/pharmaceutical development
· Solid understanding of analytical instruments and the ability to apply technical principles and theories.
The ideal candidate is motivated by joining a growing start-up company with its opportunities. You are prepared to tackle unknown challenges. It is important to be able to maintain an overview of the big picture in an environment where changes sometimes occur rapidly.
Welcome to Chromologics!
Chromologics was founded in 2017 and uses precision fermentation to produce novel colorants. Our technology platform will enable us to be early movers in introducing exclusively lab grown natural food colorants to the market that are high-performing, cost-competitive, and sustainable alternatives. Unlike other existing natural colors, our colorants are not extracted from high-value labor intensive raw materials like fruit & vegetables or insects but are produced via fermentation. Chromologics R&D is transforming our work from lab to product commercialization.
Chromologics offers you the ability to gain experience and take on broader responsibilities that might be limited within roles at larger organizations. We are an international and diverse team located at the Innovation House at Alfa Laval in Søborg – your office will be in Søborg. We thrive on innovation, sustainability, and applied technologies. Our facilities are within cycling and public transportation distance of Copenhagen with access to the Alfa Laval canteen, Friday breakfast, locker rooms & showers, secure bicycle parking, and fitness facilities. If you have always dreamed about building your own role within an organization, this is the team for you to join!
Salary and employment terms will match the experience and background of the right candidate.
Please apply by submitting your cover letter and CV to career@chromologics.com.
Application deadline: 31-May, 2025. Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
