Saniona is hiring a Laboratory Technician for Neurophysiology and in vivo studies
Do you want to help establish new neurophysiological assays in a growing biopharmaceutical company? Do you have experience with animal studies in mice or rats, and do you thrive in an independent role with high scientific standards, responsibility, and close collaboration with researchers? Then this could be an exciting opportunity for you.
Saniona is looking for an experienced, structured, and responsible Laboratory Technician to join a newly established function within Neurophysiology. You will become part of an interdisciplinary research environment and play a central role in establishing, performing, and documenting in vivo electrophysiological studies, including EEG studies in rodents.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to combine solid hands-on experience with laboratory animal work with the chance to help build something new in an innovative biotech company with short decision-making processes, a high level of trust, and a strong collaborative culture.
About Saniona
Saniona is a dynamic biotech company focused on developing treatments for diseases related to the nervous system, including epilepsy, depression, and schizophrenia. The company is characterized by a flat organizational structure, high scientific standards, and an informal culture where employees support each other across departments.
At Saniona, you will join a social and professional environment where scientific innovation, quality, and strong collaboration go hand in hand.
About the role
As Laboratory Technician in Neurophysiology, you will be an important part of the start-up phase for new assays and laboratory procedures. You will work closely with scientists, technicians, animal facility staff, and colleagues in other pharmacology departments.
The role combines independent hands-on work in the animal facility with planning, documentation, and contribution to the development and optimization of study designs. You will have a varied day-to-day role involving both routine tasks and new technical methods.
Your key responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Performing animal studies in mice and/or rats.
- Handling, observing, and dosing laboratory animals, including oral administration and injections.
- Working with EEG studies and in vivo electrophysiological measurements.
- Performing surgical procedures, such as implantation of electrodes in the brain, depending on your experience.
- Collecting samples such as blood and tissue, and potentially performing dissections.
- Monitoring animal welfare, including during longer-term studies.
- Recording and documenting studies in protocols and databases.
- Ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards, study licenses, internal SOPs, and applicable legislation.
- Contributing to the set-up, validation, and optimization of new techniques, assays, and laboratory procedures.
Your profile
We imagine that you are trained as a Laboratory Technician or have an equivalent relevant background. Most importantly, you have practical experience with laboratory animal studies and enjoy taking responsibility in an environment where quality, structure, and collaboration are essential.
We expect that you have:
- Experience with in-vivo work in mice and/or rats.
- A completed and valid laboratory animal science course, such as EU Function ABD/FELASA C or equivalent.
- Practical experience with handling, observing, and dosing laboratory animals.
- A structured, responsible, and detail-oriented working style.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing constructively to an interdisciplinary team.
- A willingness to perform both routine tasks and learn new techniques.
It is an advantage, but not a requirement, if you have experience with:
- EEG studies or other in vivo electrophysiology techniques.
- Surgical procedures in laboratory animals.
- Working in an industrial biotech or pharma setting.
- Long-term studies and systematic animal welfare monitoring.
Candidates from academic research environments with relevant hands-on experience are also encouraged to apply.
As a person
You are proactive, quality-conscious, and helpful. You take pride in doing things properly, and you are not afraid to take responsibility or raise issues when something needs attention. You thrive in an environment where people help each other, while also being given the freedom and trust to drive your own tasks forward.
You are motivated by learning new techniques, contributing to scientific development, and being part of research that may ultimately make a difference for patients with serious neurological diseases.
Saniona offers
Saniona offers an exciting full-time position of 37 hours per week in a company in development. You will have the opportunity to become part of a strong scientific environment with a high degree of autonomy and good opportunities for professional development.
You can look forward to:
- A varied and responsible role in a growing biopharmaceutical company.
- The opportunity to be involved from the beginning in a new neurophysiology function.
- A flat organization with short decision-making processes and a high level of trust in the individual.
- An informal, social, and professional working environment with a strong collegial spirit.
- Flexible working hours and good working conditions.
- Competitive salary based on qualifications.
- Pension scheme, bonus scheme, lunch scheme, and paid phone and internet.
- Opportunities for professional development within preclinical research.
Why join this role?
This is a particularly strong opportunity for someone who wants more than a traditional Laboratory Technician role. At Saniona, you will have the chance to help shape new processes, establish new assays, and work close to the science in an organization where your input is valued.
You will be given a high level of independence, a strong professional community, and the opportunity to work with meaningful science within neurological diseases.
