If you’re a hands-on fermentation scientist excited by a colourful workday with fermentation in a vibrant team while contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future, we’d love to hear from you.
BioColor is an innovative spin-out of the Technical University of Denmark and is pioneering the future of sustainable natural colours through precision fermentation. We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled fermentation scientist with hands-on mindset to join our growing team and support our mission of creating high-performance, bio based colour solutions. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced fermentation professional to take ownership of BioColor’s fermentation process development, upscaling and technology transfer to external facilities.
The position
As a Senior Fermentation Scientist at BioColor, you will play a central role in developing, optimizing, and scaling our fermentation processes, as well as transferring this technology to external production facilities. You will lead the design and execution of benchtop-scale fermentation experiments, taking ownership of data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
You will be part of a highly collaborative Process Team and work closely with the Strain Development Team to ensure seamless integration between strain and process optimization. Your responsibilities will include:
- Plan, design and evaluate fermentation experiments for fermentation process development and optimization.
- Hands-on execution of regular benchtop-scale fermentation laboratory experiments together with our Laboratory Technician.
- Upscale fermentation processes and transfer the fermentation technology to external facilities.
- Develop and optimize various quantitative analytical methods for following fermentation processes and transfer these analytical methods to external facilities.
- Adhere to and improve laboratory safety and quality standards. • Collaborate effectively with our multidisciplinary teams and contribute to troubleshooting with a hands-on, proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Your background
- PhD or equivalent level education in the fields of Fermentation, Biotechnology, Chemical engineering or Biochemical engineering or similar.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with fermentation systems for microbial fermentations and fermentation data evaluation from an industrial or start-up setting.
- Documented direct experience with various analytical methods to follow fermentation processes, for example spectroscopic or chromatographic techniques.
- Collaborative mindset with a can-do attitude, paired with willingness to perform hands-on laboratory work in a high-paced start-up environment.
- Excellent planning and communication skills, with strong interest in R&D project management and in taking ownership for getting good job done.
- It is an advantage to have some familiarity with various DSP technologies for fermentation-based processes.
- It is an advantage to have some basic knowledge of programming for fermentation process control and some experience with different tools available for fermentation experimental design and fermentation data evaluation.
