Help us crack the future of materials 🌰
At Nuterials, we’re setting a new tone for sustainable innovation. We develop natural alternatives to single-use and non-recyclable products, carefully engineered from natural sidestreams like nutshells, to help restore a healthier planet. Founded on the belief that nature knows best, we’re an action-oriented startup researching, developing, and producing natural material solutions from nutshells and beyond.
As Product Development Manager, you’ll lead complex, hands-on, multidisciplinary projects that bridge the gap between early formulation development and commercial-scale production. In short: you’ll help turn ideas into materials that actually make it into the real world.
Why now?
This is an exciting time to join Nuterials. We’re moving fast, fueled by curiosity, motivation, and a strong ambition to expand our product portfolio, explore new application areas, and scale our impact over the next 12–18 months. We’ve just closed our pre-seed round, giving us the momentum and a strong team of experienced investors to grow both as a company and as a business.
How does life as a nutcracker look?
You’ll work in a dynamic, social, and innovative startup space at Symbion in NV Copenhagen, and within close collaboration to DTU Ballerup. We are currently a small and hands-on team (3.5 FTE) which means this role comes with significant ownership, breadth, and responsibility. You will be working close to the core of the company, with limited hierarchy and a strong expectation of autonomy and prioritization. The coworking space offers endless coffee, canteen access with daily changing menus, monthly community breakfasts + Friday bars, a free gym + massage chair (in case nut-cracking isn’t workout enough), and lots of good energy.
When you join Nuterials, you’re not just taking a job, you’re joining a mission. You’ll see the real-world impact of your work on a daily basis. If you’re ready to become a changemaker and help crack today’s plastic challenges, we’d love to hear from you.
Your role
As Product Development Manager, you’ll spend most of your time on formulation development and testing, while overseeing production with external manufacturing partners. You’ll be responsible for implementing new products and material formats, especially for injection molding and additive manufacturing, and for connecting the dots between research, production, and commercial teams.
This role requires a hands-on mindset, a structured and organized way of working, and the ability to think like a strategic engineer. We’re looking for someone who tells us the things we don’t know yet, and who can translate between research and business development with ease. You will report directly to the Co-Founder & Head of Product Development, and work closely with the founding team across commercialization, operations, and partnerships.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and execute product development projects from lab scale to pilot scale (TRL 3–8)
- Drive adaptation of new materials with external production partners
- Oversee and perform internal and external production trials and material qualification
- Develop new grades and formulations tailored to partner and customer needs
- Establish and maintain quality control frameworks
- Identify opportunities for efficiency, sustainability improvements, and new technologies
- Bring curiosity, flexibility, ownership, and a generous team spirit 😊
Who we’re looking for
You have a technical/engineering background in manufacturing, polymer processing, material science, or a similar field, with relevant hands-on experience. You’ve worked with compounding and/or plastics manufacturing, think analytically, and enjoy solving complex problems by creating tangible solutions.
You’re open-minded, innovative, and comfortable navigating uncertainty. You like getting your hands dirty, asking good questions, and turning challenges into actionable plans.
Practicalities
Salary: 30,000–40,000 DKK/month for full-time position (37.5 h/week)
Work location: Symbion Østerbro & DTU Ballerup (remote work exceptionally possible)
