About the role
As a Senior Data Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing scalable data architectures to support the complex data needs of pharmaceutical clients. You will lead the strategy for data integration, data governance, and cloud infrastructure across R&D and Commercial Excellence datasets, ensuring that the architecture aligns with industry standards and supports the team’s analytical objectives. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders, business analysts, data engineers, and data scientists to create a unified, efficient data ecosystem that drives business value.
You must have at least 7+ years of experience in implementing IT solutions, with ideally 3+ years in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry. Your main task will be to translate our pharma clients’ business needs into user stories and technology and to participate in implementation projects for high profile clients – from initiation to completion. The ideal candidate has successfully delivered tech-complex projects.
The position is within the Data and Analytics practice area at BASE, which combines highly specialized business knowledge of the pharma commercial domain with in-depth technology expertise to maximize the value creation from the digital platform of our clients.
As a minimum, we expect you to have 7+ years of experience as a Senior Data Architect within life science, specifically to fulfil the following responsibilities:
- Build Data Architecture frameworks for a specific tech/data product (reference, meta and/or master data, data management procedures…).
- Design and manage systems that integrate data from various sources including clinical, commercial, R&D, and financial systems, ensuring high performance and data integrity (Mulesoft, Alteryx, Rest APIs,..).
- Lead initiatives to establish robust data governance framework and lineage, ensuring data quality, metadata management, and adherence to compliance regulations (GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, etc.).
- Oversee the continuous improvement of defined frameworks to meet both current and future business needs whilst securing optimal data accuracy & accessibility (based on new data usage uncovered by data scientists…).
- Contribute to the identification of significant data assets for the enterprise & to the translation of business requirements into data products (database, warehouse, stream…).
- Identify & assess potential impacts/opportunities of product choices from a data architecture standpoint (compliance of proposed data models in new applications to be bought, interdependency with other products architecture…).
- Coordinate with other Data/Tech Architects as needed to secure the consistency of architecture decisions in alignment with clients’ constraints and decisions.
- Provide data architecture best practices & bring forward new ways of thinking around data to improve outcomes.
- Actively engage in internal knowledge-sharing initiatives and consistently pursue professional development by staying current with industry and technology trends.
- Deep hands-on understanding of the commercial processes in life science companies.
- Successful track record of participating in IT projects in a life science company.
- Problem solving and critical thinking mindset to support our clients’ analytics challenges and ambition to become data driven companies.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

- A BSc or MSc from a leading university in e.g., Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Engineering or similar experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong knowledge of conceptual, logical modelling, especially for rationalizing data objects (Snowflake…).
- Deep expertise in designing cloud-based data architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP), including experience with big data platforms and technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Databricks).
- Proficiency in data modelling, ETL /ELT pipeline design, and real-time data integration frameworks.
- You are familiar with BI tools (full-stack development).
- You have the ability to define the value of the data asset to the enterprise.
- You have experience in advanced programming and administering databases.
- You possess strong communication skills, with the ability to talk with both technical & non-technical stakeholders.
- You demonstrate mastery of data governance & security guidelines.
- You excel in agile ways of working and documenting (collaboration, DevOps…).
- Practical experience with agile and waterfall project management.
- Proven experience with implementing cloud solutions.
- Understanding of compliance frameworks such as GxP, HIPAA, and GDPR is a plus.
