Senior Associate, Planetary Health Analytics

BioInnovation Institute (BII) – a non-profit life science foundation funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation – is looking for a new colleague who will be responsible for generating insight analysis and scouting to enable BII and its partners to drive innovation through the BII platform.
Founded in 2018, BII promotes life science and deep tech innovation by building and supporting start-up companies to ensure that innovations become widely available for the benefit of human welfare and society.
We incubate our start-ups and pre-commercial projects in a vibrant, collaborative workspace in central Copenhagen. In addition to funding and infrastructure we support the entrepreneurial teams with business development know-how and training, access to our extensive partner and investor networks to facilitate successful company creation and future fundraising. The Job
As Senior associate, Planetary Health Analytics you will be part of the Science Strategy team and work with scientific and business development colleagues to drive partnerships focusing on developing the next-generation of Planetary Health solutions. You will play a crucial role in conducting market research, evaluating new technological and scientific trends and scouting for new funding opportunities. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in working with partners to identify challenges that need to be addressed and to contribute to the success of startups delivering innovative solutions to address those challenges.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough scientific and market analyses to identify emerging trends in selected areas within Planetary Health including but not limited to food, agriculture, energy, chemicals and materials.
- Provide clear and concise summary reports on scientific and commercial trends from big data sources including public and proprietary databases
- Design and maintain processes and systems to analyse large data sets to define scientific, commercial and market trends.
- Develop solid guidelines to perform landscape analyses including scoping, resource and visualisation framework
- Prepare presentations and reports of identified trends and opportunities to guide strategic decision making for internal portfolio sourcing and external innovation partners.
- Identify high-impact scientific centres, leading researchers and key opinion leaders in an area of interest.
- Collaborate strongly within team and cross-functionally to integrate the findings into BII workflows.
Professional and Personal Spirit
We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of the planetary health sector, including knowledge of emerging technologies and key players. You have a deep passion for sustainability and the potential of biotechnology and other relevant technologies to improve planetary health.
We expect you to hold Ph.D. in biotechnology, bioengineering, food technology, agricultural technology, sustainability or another relevant field. Furthermore, you have 3+ years. experience in management consulting, venture capital, as business analysts or a related role with a focus on sustainability, biosolutions, bioindustrials, biotechnology or another relevant field. Alternatively, you hold a master's degree with 6+ years of relevant working experience.
We also imagine that you have:
- Strong understanding of the planetary health sector, including knowledge of emerging technologies and key industrial players.
- Expertise in conducting research and market trend analyses in a relevant business area.
- Ability to setup processes and guidelines for the performance of targeted landscaping in a specific field.
- Expertise in handling and manipulating large datasets and understanding data variables and connecting the dots in various datasets.
- Proficiency with written and oral communications and must be able to communicate complex quantitative ideas to internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in standard data science and analytics tools such as R, Python, SQL, PowerBI and/or Tableau is preferred.
- Previous experience establishing collaboration with industry a/o investors is an advantage but not a criteria.
- Strong team player with the capability of taking project lead and grow with the role
- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset with the ability of creating scope and processes for new areas.
- Strong in prioritising activities based on project and business goals and needs
- Comprehensive understanding of the nature and culture of planetary health research and innovation ecosystem.
- Excellent ability to understand, analyse and communicate research results, research projects, and research evaluations.
- Strong eye for combining different academic disciplines into new, translational opportunities.

You have the ability to interpret complex scientific and technical data and enjoy communicating the essence of your findings to guide decision making. You are confident, proactive and able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Maintaining a high level of professionality and integrity is key to you and you have a natural affinity for high quality and timeliness. Importantly, you have an optimistic, change-ready and agile mindset.
You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build good relationships with internal and external stakeholders. We are also looking for a team member who is self-aware and thrives for continuously improving.
