We are looking for an ambitious and talented Commercial Director to lead our organization in the EMEA region, China & Emerging markets in the rest of the world. The ideal candidate comes with a strong track record in sales & commercial leadership from a B2B focused MedTech or Life Science organization.
The role
In this newly established role, you will be responsible for driving business growth and profitability within area of EMEA, China & Rest of World:
As General Manager, you will oversee developing and implementing sales and commercial strategies, identifying new business opportunities and working closely with the regional teams to execute the strategy & ensure aligned operational execution.
As Commercial Director, you will lead our EMEA team of Sales Managers located in Denmark, UK and Germany. Your direct reports also include our country manager in China and our Partner & Business Development Manager (working with emerging markets) situated in our Danish office. After Sales is a pivotal part of our business and therefore, your main partner in this key area is the Global After Sales Director as well as the Technical Manager and Application Science Team Lead. You will also work closely with all functions to drive effective Key Account strategies to drive long-term customer satisfaction.
You will oversee all revenues and cost functions, and report directly to the CEO who is currently also VP of Global Sales & Marketing and be part of the Commercial and Extended Leadership Teams in Sophion.

Key responsibilities
Regional Strategic Planning and Execution
- Develop and implement regional business strategies to achieve sales targets and market growth.
- Identify new business opportunities and market trends to drive revenue and profitability.
- Lead the region and work closely with the global commercial management team on New Product Introduction.
Sales and Business Development
- Lead, motivate and support your direct reports to achieve and exceed commercial targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Oversee the development and execution of new sales plans and marketing initiatives.
Customer Relations
- Address and resolve customer complaints and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to improve our customers’ experience with Sophion’ s products and services globally, together with your team as well as the QA/QC director, production leader and VP, Global Sales.
Operational Management
- Ensure efficient and effective regional operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
- Implement and maintain operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards and local regulations.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop your dedicated team of Sales & Business Development Managers.
- Define, train and develop high-performance in the sales, after sales and marketing teams.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management to ensure team success.
Financial Management
- Oversee regional financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and profitability.
- Prepare and manage regional budgets, forecasts, and financial reports including Board Materials. Follow-up with your direct reports on actual performance vs. budget, to ensure delivery Must Win Battles and performance targets.
- Work together with CEO and the finance team to analyze and understand the P&L situation and manage a healthy balance between Growth and Profitability.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure all regional activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks to the business.
Profile & key qualifications
- +7 years of hands-on sales, Key Account and Commercial Leadership experience from a similar position with a proven track record of working with highly technical products to a global market.
- Experience from the Life Science or MedTech field is a benefit, but not a prerequisite, in this role.
- Master’s degree in business administration, marketing or related field, preferably in combination with working from companies in science, technology and/or engineering. Alternatively, a degree in science, technology, engineering or related field in combination with commercial working experience.
- Commercial working experience with sale and/marketing of capital equipment, services and consumables is not a requirement, but a benefit in this role.
- Excellent strategic planning and business development skills.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and financial performance.
- The ability to navigate on both the operational and strategic level while continuously aligning mutual expectations to ensure effective cross-functional collaboration towards common goals.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Fluency in English, both oral and written, is a must.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Data driven and proficiency in data analysis and the use of technology for process optimization.
Travel is required
Sophion have offices in Denmark, USA, Japan and China, and customers all over the world: Thus, this is an international role: You should expect to travel +70 days a year.
