Financial Controller (Maternity Cover 12 months)

The BioInnovation Institute Foundation (BII) is looking for a new colleague who is passionate about working with financial controlling and management in relation to our own organization as well our external projects.
BII promotes collaborative, interdisciplinary and research-based innovation in the Life Sciences and helps build viable start-up companies to ensure that such innovations become widely available for the benefit of people and society. As a commercial foundation with a not-for-profit objective and established a collaborative workspace in Copenhagen to bring together entrepreneurial researchers and company creators from different disciplines.
The Job
In the role of Financial Controller, you will be primarily tasked with the financial controlling of our P&L and balance sheet as well as managing the invoice and expense management flow. You will also function as finance business partner, supporting the entire BII organization with daily finance and admin related issues. You will be part of the Operations team and refer to the Head of Finance.
The actual daily accounting is done by our service partner Keepers, but we are checking the books in order to ensure accuracy and quality.
You will be responsible for the following:
- Checking the correct allocation of cost based on our current project & department structure.
- Developing work processes (SOPs) to support and standardize your own workflows and the organisations. Also supporting the organisation with those SOPs.
- Controlling of internal and external projects – we collaborate amongst other things with institutions and foundations such as EU, BMGF & KU
- Supporting the Head of Finance on ad-hoc projects such as:
- Establishing a new subsidiary
- Annual Audit – supporting with samples and reconciliations
- Budget cycle – analysing and reviewing department budgets from the CXO team
- Payroll carve-out – coordinating and ad hoc tasks related to the project
- Further develop our Power BI follow up
- Finance Business Partner for internal and external stakeholders.
- Including invoicing between the entities
- Invoice management
Our working environment is very dynamic and diverse, with plenty of complex issues to manage both within the life science investments as well as the foundation environment. Partnering up with stakeholders across the organisation is key to manage the tasks in a professional and proactive way.
Your Profile
We are looking for a team member with a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience within financial controlling. You might come from a similar role as a project controller, bookkeeper or accountant, and we imagine that you have a relevant background that contributes with new perspectives to our team.
Most importantly, you thrive with changing assignments and an organization that is still growing and developing a lot. When you see challenges, you proactively seek to solve them, and you can get people to follow you. You don’t need experience within life science, but it is key for us that you find BII’s purpose and vision meaningful and motivating.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for a pro-active and service-minded person with excellent interpersonal skills, and furthermore:
- MSc in Auditing/Business Administration, HD(R) or BSc in Auditing or similar
- Great abilities to interact across different functions and many stakeholders at all levels
- Interest in finance IT-systems and related processes (e.g. Business Central, PowerBI)
- Excellent communication skills in Danish and in English (written as well as verbal)
- High integrity yet a pragmatic approach to development and problem-solving
- Able to work independently with several workstreams simultaneously
- You have a hands-on approach and take pride in bringing a solution-oriented attitude and structuring processes
