Join us at the forefront of the green transition and shape the future of biotech with 21st.BIO!
At 21st.BIO, we're not just another biotech company, we are the vanguards of a revolution. Fueled by the determination to shape a more sustainable world, we are developing a technology platform that will profoundly disrupt the global landscape. Our dream? To engineer the future of sustainable foods and materials through the art of fermentation.
Our IT team
At 21st.Bio, IT enables the science. Our small team manages everything from cloud infrastructure and endpoints to internal tools and developer platforms. There's always more to build and maintain than there is time — and that's where you come in.
Job Summary
We are looking for a student assistant to join our IT team and contribute to the work that keeps our internal platforms healthy and our scientists well-supported. You will work closely with the rest of the team, assisting with repository maintenance, documentation, pipeline hygiene, and light technical support — contributing to real infrastructure that people depend on daily. You will have clear guidance and support, while also having the space to manage your own time and work independently across the week.
Key contributions include:
- Assist in maintaining and improving our internal GitHub repositories — structure, documentation, branching hygiene, and CI/CD pipelines
- Assist in keeping our shared template repositories and base images up to date
- Assist in creating and maintaining runbooks, SOPs, and onboarding guides for internal tools and infrastructure
- Assist in the rollout of internal standards by helping teams adopt shared templates and deployment patterns
- Assist with light research and prototyping tasks related to internal tooling and automation
- As part of a small IT team in a fast-moving startup, you may occasionally be pulled into tasks outside the areas above — we value flexibility and a can-do attitude when priorities shift
Requirements
We're looking for someone organised and self-driven, with a solid technical foundation and a collaborative attitude.
Key qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor or Master programme in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar
- Comfortable with Git and GitHub — branching, pull requests, GitHub Actions
- Familiar with containerisation concepts (Docker)
- Has built or contributed to something real — a project, a tool, anything that runs somewhere
- Familiar with scripting languages and/or basic web service patterns
- Able to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical colleagues — you will regularly interact with scientists who need to understand the tools they work with, communication is a core part of this role
- Enjoy working as part of a collaborative, motivated team.
- Fluent in English, which is our working language across a global team.
It is not just what you know, but how you think!
While your background matters, it’s your mindset that we truly value. Are you agile, service-minded, and proactive, with a can-do attitude and pride in your work? Can you collaborate effectively while maintaining an efficient, clean, and orderly approach? If so, we’re eager to hear from you.
Joining our team means
- Personal and professional growth in a hub of innovation and disruptive thinking.
- A supportive workplace where your growth, well-being, and empowerment come first.
- The opportunity to work alongside a team of industry experts.
- A competitive salary and benefits package.
