Job Title: Quantum Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Quantum Engineer to join our dedicated quantum team. This is a hands-on, experimental R&D role focused on advancing our state-of-the-art quantum sensing technology. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, construction, and optimization of our core optical setup. This position is ideal for an individual who thrives on complex challenges and is passionate about conducting fundamental research in a fast-paced, industry-leading startup environment. Your primary objective will be to help unlock the next level of sensitivity for our instrument, contributing directly to a groundbreaking project.
Key Responsibilities
1. Optical System Development & Optimization

Take ownership of the development of our high-resolution optical microscope.

Design, build, align, and maintain complex optical setups involving lasers, mirrors, active optical elements, and high-quality imaging systems.

Utilize optical simulation software (e.g., Zemax) to design and validate new optical pathways and microscope configurations.
2. Experimental Execution & Data Analysis

Conduct sophisticated quantum measurements on diamond-based sensors, including magnetic field measurements.

Develop and implement novel experimental protocols to enhance instrument sensitivity and performance, with the goal of achieving a 100-fold improvement.

Perform offline data analysis on large datasets using Python or MATLAB to interpret results and guide further development.
3. System Integration & Troubleshooting

Work collaboratively within a small team to ensure seamless integration of optical, electronic, and software components.

Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex physical effects and technical issues within the experimental setup to ensure measurement stability and accuracy.

Contribute to the overall system architecture, understanding every component’s function and its impact on performance.
Qualifications & Experience

A Master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Quantum Optics, Atomic Physics, or a related field. Candidates with exceptional Master’s-level research experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Demonstrable hands-on experience working in an experimental physics lab, particularly a quantum optics laboratory.

Proven expertise in building and aligning complex optical systems, including experience with free-space optics, lasers, and mirrors.

Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis using Python or MATLAB for research-grade applications.

An inquisitive and proactive mindset, with the ability to question assumptions and independently investigate solutions to complex problems.

Experience with one or more of the following is a significant advantage:

Optical design and simulation software, especially Zemax.

Experimental systems involving cold atoms, trapped ions, or Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers.

High-resolution microscopy and low-aberration imaging techniques.

Active optical components such as Acousto-Optic Modulators/Deflectors (AOMs/AODs) or Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs).

Microwave electronics and control systems.
