At 21st.BIO, we're not just another biotech company, we are the vanguards of a revolution. Fueled by the determination to shape a more sustainable world, we are developing a technology platform that will profoundly disrupt the global landscape. Our dream? To engineer the future of sustainable foods and materials through the art of fermentation.
Our Pilot team
Our in-house biotech pilot plant in Søborg plays a key role in the green transition, supporting customers in optimizing processes and scaling up from lab to industrial production. We work with a variety of microbial hosts and collaborate closely with diverse customers, enabling a wide range of end-use applications.
We are constantly expanding the capacity of our pilot plant. Since its inauguration in April 2024, our dedicated team of 1 scientists and 3 technicians has been operating and continuously improving it. As a small team, collaboration is essential to the success of our day-to-day activities. The pilot plant currently operates under GMO class 1, and we are actively working toward food-grade conditions.
Job Summary
You will maintain and operate our pilot plant, covering all key unit operations in biotechnology, together with colleagues. Our bioreactors range from 30 to 1200 L and produce fermentation broth for downstream processing through multiple unit operations, generating data for scale-up protocols and product samples.
Key contributions include:
- Drive the preparation and execution of downstream processing campaigns, assisting in troubleshooting during and after operation
- Contribute to all steps of the fermentation and downstream processes, with a focus on operating DSP equipment.
- Prepare and control fermentations, including sampling.
- Perform biomass separation.
- Conduct filtration operations, including micro- and ultrafiltration.
- Manage pretreatment and chromatographic processes.
- Record and maintain accurate logs of process operations using Benchling.
- Support technology transfer from laboratory scale to pilot scale and to customers/CMO.
- Assess new technologies and work with vendors to source new equipment.
- Actively participate in building and maintaining quality systems for food-grade operations.
Requirements
We're looking for someone that matches the following profile:
- A Process Technician or Scientist with previous experience in a biotech pilot facility, particularly in downstream operations.
- Proactive and confident working with process equipment.
- Motivated by a dynamic workplace where projects and tasks evolve, offering opportunities to contribute to new systems and workflows.
- Enjoying collaborating in a team with highly motivated colleagues.
- Flexible – processes can sometimes require supervision outside of normal working hours and on weekends. Also, limited travel to CMOs or customer sites to support process implementation may be required.
- Fluency in English as we are a global company.
It is not just what you know, but how you think!
While your background matters, it’s your mindset that we truly value. Are you agile, service-minded, and proactive, with a can-do attitude and pride in your work? Can you collaborate effectively while maintaining an efficient, clean, and orderly approach? If so, we’re eager to hear from you.
Joining our team means
