Job Title: Senior Research Associate – Associate Scientist
Location: Berkeley-Emeryville (In-Person)
Overview:
We seek a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our dynamic team as a Senior Research Associate / Associate Scientist. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute the field of gene regulation, molecular and cell biology enabling a new novel therapeutic platform for patients. The successful candidate will play a key role in biological assay development and execution, as well as help drive the success of our high-throughput screening efforts. You will be part of an innovative startup company and team delivering transformative cellular therapeutics.
We are looking for individuals who embody our core values—intensity, curiosity, and kindness—and who are driven by the conviction that patients are waiting. Success in this role requires a combination of scientific rigor, adaptability, and team collaboration, as we work to translate our programmable RNA platform into safe, precise treatments and help shape the future of genetic medicines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine cell biology workflows, including cell line maintenance and transfection (chemical and electroporation) for both both single constructs and libraries and further via lentivirus transductions.
- Design and perform mammalian cell experiments, incorporating flow cytometry as a readout to analyze cell populations and track transfection/transduction success.
- Assist in cloning high-content plasmid libraries, ensuring efficient workflows and accurate results for downstream applications.
- Design and perform molecular biology experiments, including plasmid cloning and RNA sequencing (RNAseq, RNA amplicon sequencing) sample preparation.
- Conduct nucleic acid extraction, RT-qPCR, dPCR, and other molecular characterization assays as required.
- Collaborate closely with team members to analyze experimental data, ensuring timely interpretation and presentation of findings in group meetings.
- Maintain organized and detailed lab notebooks and documentation to ensure data integrity and compliance with organizational standards.
Qualifications:
Education: M.S. in Biology, Bioengineering, Genetics, or related field.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of post-degree laboratory experience in molecular biology, cell biology, or a related discipline (academic or industry).
Technical Expertise:
- Hands-on experience with standard cell biology techniques, including transfection (chemical and electroporation), including mammalian cell culture (immortalized and primary).
- Strong background in molecular biology methods such as cloning, plasmid preparation, RNA sequencing, and nucleic acid extraction.
- Familiarity with lentiviral transduction, flow cytometry, and high-content plasmid library construction.
Skills:
- Proficiency in molecular characterization assays such as RT-qPCR, dPCR, and RNAseq sample preparation.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills to handle multiple experiments
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and contribute to cross-functional discussions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present scientific data clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with standard scientific lab software: e.g. FlowJo, Graphpad Prism, Benchling
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with lentiviral production and transduction processes.
- Familiarity with high-content plasmid libraries and high-throughput screening.
- Prior experience with flow cytometry and data analysis.
- Experience with basic coding in Python or R.
How to Apply:
