Senior Associate to the Venture Creation Team- Therapeutics – at BioInnovation Institute

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our dedicated Therapeutics team in the Venture Creation department.
BioInnovation Institute (BII) – a non-profit life science foundation funded with up to 470M EUR from the Novo Nordisk Foundation - is looking for a new colleague, who will be responsible for selecting therapeutics companies to enter the BII and supporting their progress towards the first equity financing event and/or industrial collaboration.
Founded in 2018, BII promotes evidence-based innovation in Human Health (Therapeutics and Health tech) and Planetary Health and helps build start-up companies to ensure that such innovations become widely available for the benefit of human welfare and society.
We incubate our start-ups and company creation projects in a new, vibrant, collaborative workspace in Copenhagen, bringing together a community of ambitious founders to advance new life science companies and their products. BII provides more than funding and infrastructure; we offer the knowledge, experience, and network to support newly minted life science start-ups to advance their solution, develop their team, and raise their first equity financing. The Job
As a Senior Associate in the Therapeutics team, you work collaboratively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds to enable delivery on BII’s therapeutics agenda. You support everything from scouting and sourcing applications to BII programs, application assessment, early-stage company incubation, program development and equity fundraising. You guide start-ups on establishing budgets, milestones, convertible loan documents together with the team, act as a strategic support to start-ups and projects, provide continuous feedback throughout their BII program stay, advise the companies to execute on their company building plan and make internal recommendations on tranche release and any needed company changes. You are also a key facilitator to BII start-ups’ fundraising pitch development. In addition, you contribute to the development of BII programs, facilitate improving the overall BII platform, and have the opportunity to work on and/or lead different cross-functional projects in the organization.
You will:
- Source and scout therapeutics projects to BII programs by engaging with academics, universities and founders
- Perform due diligence of BII applications through desk research and by utilizing our industry, scientific, as well as Venture Capital network and make informed recommendations for companies and projects to enter BII
- Onboard companies into BII, support their progress throughout the program stay and assist BII companies in raising equity financing together with the Therapeutics team
- Contribute to developing and executing BII programs and participate in organizing and hosting relevant BII events and outreach activities
- Independently run internal cross-organizational projects improving the BII platform, enabling BII scale-up and execution of BII’s long-term strategy
- Build network of investor and industry contacts to further support BII, BII portfolio and develop relevant field specific expertise
Your Profile
- PhD (or equivalent) level in Life Sciences or relevant fields.
- Minimum of 5 years post-PhD experience in early life science project evaluation and/or execution of life science projects towards value creating endpoints. Experience from venture capital, university tech transfer office, accelerator/incubator, drug discovery and development within pharmaceutical industry or therapeutics start-up environments is relevant
- Excellent ability to understand and evaluate scientific results, and assessment materials within and outside immediate areas of expertise with knowledge on pharmaceutical industry trends and developments
- Demonstrated understanding of life science product development process and life cycle and ability to collaborate with researchers/start-up founders to facilitate developing their research ideas towards commercialization.
- Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build productive relationships as well as support and challenge colleagues, start-up teams, and stakeholders as needed
- Ambitious, proactive and intellectually curious to develop new areas to create impact
- Resilient with a structured and solution-oriented approach to problem solving
- Ability to prioritize between competing tasks and work independently as well as collaboratively depending on the task at hand
- Professional, quality-conscious, and protective of personal and employer’s brand
