Protein Designer for a New Protein Design start-up
Do you want to help create the next generation of designed biomedicine? Are you eager to work at the cutting edge of computational protein design and high-throughput genomics?
Then join us at The BioInnovation Institute (BII) at Nørrebro, where we are currently looking for a Protein Designer who wants to be part of a skilled project team within our company-creation program, Bio Studio.
About the team and project
The project originates from a world-renowned Institute for Protein Design (University of Washington), and the international team has decades of combined experience in protein design, functional genomics, and life science start-ups.
Their scientific mission is to design binding proteins from scratch to modulate previously undruggable membrane proteins. They create these binding proteins by computationally designing structures with complementarity to the target binding site. This approach results in designed proteins with unique properties to meet therapeutic needs currently not served by existing medicines.
Your Opportunity to Join BII’s Bio Studio Program!
Your ownership of our mutual journey will be to:
- Develop, execute, and optimize protein design campaigns targeting integral membrane proteins.
- Perform analysis of rich experimental data to improve current design techniques.
- Assist the project team in the development of software infrastructure for experimental workflows.
Your daily work and well-being will be shared directly with the project team, but as a small community with close ties and bright minds, you should be prepared for many cross-functional and inspiring discussions that can help shape your work at BII.
Your Professional & Personal Spirit
Our new teammate should be eager to work with translational research in an innovative and inspiring drug discovery environment with unlimited growth opportunities!
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with protein design, data analysis, and software development. However, we are open to a diversity of backgrounds and prior experience; the key factors for success are strong focus and diligence, excellent communication, and enthusiasm for learning new skills.
Required experience
- PhD in physics, biology, chemistry, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field,
- Proficient in scripting frameworks, with a preference for Python, and the ability to develop within a shared codebase,
- Expertise in protein structure analysis, with a proven ability to evaluate designed protein structures and provide actionable insights to enhance design pipelines.
Preferred experience
- Experience with protein biochemistry or protein biophysics,
- Experience with (bio)informatics,
- Experience with binder screening campaigns using yeast display,
Besides this, you have:
- Enthusiasm for translating basic science into drug discovery
- Strong written and oral communication in English
- Desire to join collaborative, fast-paced research culminating in a start-up

About the BII and Bio Studio
Incubated by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, BII’s mission is to create new life science solutions to address unmet societal or health needs. At BII, we have established a new program, Bio Studio, which aims to build life science start-ups based on world-class research. Bio Studio projects are three-year grant funded projects sourced from leading researchers employed at research institutions worldwide. The projects we admit combine scientific novelty, commercial viability, and the potential for significant societal and/or health impact. The goal of the projects is to create a viable start-up company based on the project within the three years.
BII aims to recruit a strong project team for each Bio Studio project, and it is expected that this team will form the core of the future start-up deriving from the project. Apart from establishing a solid Project Team to be headed up by an Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR), BII provides a comprehensive network of industry, investors, and subject matter experts to support the projects.
