Lead Specialist of Receptor Pharmacology
Do you want to help create the next generation of designed biomedicine? Are you eager to work at the cutting edge of computational protein design and receptor pharmacology?
Then join us at The BioInnovation Institute (BII) at Nørrebro, where we are currently looking for a Lead Specialist of Receptor Pharmacology to a project in our Bio Studio-program.
About BII
Incubated by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, BII’s mission is to create new life science solutions to address unmet societal or health needs.
BII aims to recruit a strong project team for each initiative, and it is expected that this team will form the core of the future start-up originating from the project. Apart from establishing a solid project team to be headed up by an entrepreneur in residence, BII provides a comprehensive network of industry, investors, and subject matter experts to support the projects.
Your Opportunity to Join BII’s Bio Studio Program!
The project originates from a world-renowned Institute for Protein Design (University of Washington) led by 2024 Nobel Laureate Prof. David Baker, and the international team has decades of combined experience in protein design, functional genomics, and life science start-ups.
Their scientific mission is to design binding proteins from scratch to modulate previously undruggable G-protein Coupled Receptors. They create these binding proteins by computationally designing structures with complementarity to active/inactive state of the target receptors and resulting in bespoke agonists and antagonists. This approach results in designed proteins with unique biophysical properties to meet therapeutic needs currently not served by existing medicines.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies for in vitro receptor pharmacology screening and profiling of novel compounds derived from high-throughput screening.
- Lead the design and coordination of in vivo pharmacology studies in collaboration with CROs and pharmaceutical partners.
- Drive target selection and prioritization to support the development of the internal therapeutic pipeline.
Your daily work will be highly collaborative; as part of our tight-knit community of bright minds, you should be prepared for many cross-functional and inspiring discussions that can help shape your work at BII.
Your Professional & Personal Spirit
Our new teammate should be eager to work with translational research in an innovative and inspiring drug discovery environment with unlimited growth opportunities! Candidates who have hands-on experience with protein design, data analysis, and software development will be prioritized. However, we are open to a diversity of backgrounds and prior experience; the key factors for success are strong focus, diligence, excellent communication, and enthusiasm for learning new skills.
Required Experience:
- PhD in relevant field and +5 years of experience post-PhD.
- Extensive experience (+5 years) with GPCR receptor pharmacology, assay development, and in vivo experiments (potentially in collaboration with CROs).
Preferred Experience:
- Broad knowledge of approved GPCR drugs and their limitations
- Target selection for therapeutic development
- Design and readout of in vivo pharmacology studies
Besides this, you have:
- Enthusiasm for translating basic science into drug discovery
- Excellent working knowledge of cell biology and signalling assays
- Strong written and oral communication in English
- Desire to join collaborative, fast-paced research culminating in a start-up
Your Experience Working at BII
We offer a committed and professional workplace in which we emphasize ensuring that our colleagues thrive, are challenged, and have opportunities to develop their potential. A career at BII allows you to work with world-leading entrepreneurial scientists in a position where you will have a substantial chance to impact your job and the opportunity to develop your bio entrepreneurial skills.
BII invites you to become part of a vibrant and professional workplace with a chance to bring ideas to life and science to market for the benefit of society and human welfare.
